EDITOR’S COMMENT: BORIS’ BONKERS GREEN REVOLUTION IS GOING TO COST HOMEOWNERS AT LEAST £8,000 TO UPGRADE THEIR GAS BOILERS. THIS IS A HUGE SUM OF MONEY THAT MOST PEOPLE CAN’T AFFORD. IF YOU AGREE THAT THIS BOILER BAN NEEDS TO BE SCRAPPED, SIGN OUR PETITION NOW!
The sale of gas boilers should be banned by 2033, the Government’s climate change advisers have said, as they urge the UK to go further in emissions cuts over the next 15 years.
The Climate Change Committee said the UK should reduce emissions by 78 per cent by 2035 if it is to stay on track to reach its legally binding commitment to net zero by 2050.
It said the action between now and 2035 would require more input than ever before from individuals changing what they eat, and how they travel and heat their homes.
It called for any replacement boilers from 2025 to be ‘hydrogen-ready’, likely to make them around £100 more expensive.
And it said there should be a ban on gas boilers being fitted into homes by 2033, except in areas designated to be converted to hydrogen or a district heating source such as heavy industry.
The Government is expected to soon bring forward a ban on gas boilers in new homes by 2023.
The CCC is legally required to produce ‘carbon budgets’ every five years in line with the Climate Change Act 2008 and the Government has until June next year to agree.
This is the first carbon budget it has produced since the UK committed to becoming net zero by 2050, and as such is a world first plan to a fully decarbonised nation.
