Proscribe Extinction Rebellion as a terrorist organisation
This Bank Holiday weekend Extinction Rebellion waged another war on the streets of London, Manchester, Cardiff and other cities across the UK. We think enough is enough.
We believe it’s time for the Home Secretary to proscribe Extinction Rebellion as a terrorist organisation.
For an organisation to be proscribed it must fit the definition of the Terrorism Act (2000):
(1) In this Act “terrorism” means the use or threat of action where—
(a) the action falls within subsection (2),
(b) the use or threat is designed to influence the government [F1 or an international governmental organisation] or to intimidate the public or a section of the public, and
(c) the use or threat is made for the purpose of advancing a political, religious [F2, racial] or ideological cause.
(2) Action falls within this subsection if it—
(a) involves serious violence against a person,
(b) involves serious damage to property,
(c) endangers a person’s life, other than that of the person committing the action,
(d) creates a serious risk to the health or safety of the public or a section of the public, or
(e) is designed seriously to interfere with or seriously to disrupt an electronic system
Extinction Rebellion activists have repeatedly stopped emergency vehicles attending incidents, smashed up private property and they are now suspected of attempting cyber attacks on government networks.
These illegal actions and threats of actions are made with the express purpose of influencing the government, and advancing a political and ideological cause.
